Hello Room 22, I wanted to put up another post today because I wanted to share letters that some of the teachers and staff wrote to you. You can get your parents to read them with you. Today is the last day of school before spring break. I hope you can enjoy your family over the next week and spend some time outside being active and enjoying the sunshine. I will be spending a lot of time with my family and that includes Hershey my old dog. He will be quite happy to have me home to walk with him. I am thinking about interesting things we can do after Spring Break. I want to do a unit on nutrition, and continue to work on solving friendship issues. We are going to work on money and time. I wanted to start some mystery science, and current events. Today I learned some fantastic ideas for writing and reading when we had an author visit our school to teach the teachers! We will figure out ways to make all of this happen. I miss all of you very much and I find myself wondering what you are doing during the day. Please send comments to the blog and let all of us what you are up to Thinking about you and missing all of you very much, Ms. Flemming See attached letters from Ms. Ruark, Ms.Wilson, and Ms. Fraserthis is Mrs Hello Room 22, this is Mrs. Ruark! I know you will likely be utubing and gaming and watching TV for part of your time. But remember to check out the websites Mrs. Flemming has provided, check our blob, and to help your parents when the ask you. Remember what we say to you everyday: YOU CAN DO HARD THINGS. I will try and send messages on the blog. I think of you all the time. I miss our SPARK and GYM floor hockey, soccer, and basketball games. They were sooooooo fun! Try doing 10 burpies, 10 jumping jacks, 10 squats, 10 push ups, and 10 sit ups everyday! We will see you again before tooo long! Big HUGS Love, Mrs. Ruark Hello Room 22, Mrs. Wilson here! I hope each and every one of you are doing well and enjoying this time to yourself. It is important to remember that everything will be okay. There a lot of adults working hard to keep everyone safe. I understand that some of you may feel upset during this time and that is okay. When I am feeling upset, I try to listen to my favourite music and focus on what I am in control of, like myself. I have been focussing on having a positive attitude, using kindness and finding new ways have fun at home. I have created a schedule for myself (like Ms. Flemming does in school) which includes playing cards, solving puzzles, reading books and learning something new. I am excited to bake something new, make playdough (I will leave a popular recipe for this below) and go outside and enjoy the fresh air. Remember, you are all strong and kind individuals. I am proud of you and grateful to have you as my students. Get lots of rest and take care, Mrs. Wilson Playdough Recipe from Jillian Harris Ingredients
Dear Rosscarrock Families,
If you’re like me, your head has been swirling with emotion these past four days, and for good reason. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought our year to a screeching “PAUSE”-a pause with no clear end in sight. Special things, which we’ve been anticipating (Camp, Lacrosse, Bike Month, etc) have been canceled. When I walk around the empty classrooms and hallways, I am sad, but I am also filled with happiness. The experiences we’ve shared at Rosscarrock have molded us into an inseparable group. And I thank you for creating that for all of us. There’s nothing I, or anyone, can say to make up for that time you are losing in what is supposed to be one of the most playful years of your life. But I can offer some encouragement. Right now, you have the power to make the most out of this unfortunate situation. If over a decade of teaching has taught me anything, it’s that people your age are resilient and innovative. Your generation can navigate multiple worlds and bounce between physical and digital spaces with ease. You are part of the most racially and ethnically diverse generation, and you embrace those differences in ways adults seem to struggle. I can also offer some advice. Help one another and your family. They need you. Do your grandparents or your elderly neighbors need groceries? Offer support. Some teachers may even need your help as many try to transition to online learning. We need you. Go for a walk by the school and read all the messages teachers and staff have posted for you. We want to see your faces from the other side of the window reading them. Keep your head up and keep fighting. Our country needs you because you provide hope for our future. This year may not be what you envisioned, but I’m eager to see what you do with it. Love, Mrs. Fraser Brenna Fraser Principal, Rosscarrock School Calgary Board of Education | cbe.ab.ca/Rosscarrock t | 403-777-8390 f | 403-777-8392 Hello Room 22,
We wanted to send a picture of us missing you! We read all the comments today and we love when parents and kids send messages. Sometimes, I have trouble with the reply feature on Weebly, so stay tuned on that front. Today is officially the last day of school before spring break. Teachers will be in the school until Friday though. If you have not dropped off your signed IPP sheet please stop in at the office with that document, and don't forget your things are waiting for you in the gym. We packaged up your scrapbook, shoes, and visual journals. So far, we do not have any word on the format or online platform that we will using if that is necessary. I know I started a virtual classroom on "Class Dojo", but the CBE would prefer we wait until after spring break to move ahead with anything related to online learning. I do not have details regarding any plans the CBE has for after spring break. Thank you for your patience and I hope everyone is doing well at home. I will continue to update our blog as it is less formal and more fun for all of us to stay connected. All of the kids should feel free to comment and maybe even tell us what they are doing to keep busy over the next few weeks. I think that would be really great for all of us! Like most families I plan to spend a lot of time at home over spring break so I will try and sneak in a couple of updates next week. We really miss everyone. Take Care. Ms. Flemming Hello, I have attached a couple of pictures that correspond to the "at home" schedule (word document) that kids can use to keep them busy for the next couple of days. The file is attached at the end of the blog post. I have copied the links for all of the students online websites. Email me if you have trouble logging on or getting any of the sites to work. It is very, very quiet here. We would all prefer to have students here instead of having them at home. We continue to get new information everyday with nothing definitive to share with parents or students at this time. Keep checking the blog for updates. Ms. Flemming
Hello Everyone,
I just sent out an invite to join our class through Class Dojo. Once you have accepted the invitation students can log in and see what is happening in our classroom and access individual assignments and messages. You can download the app (Class Dojo) on your phone as well for easy access. The link for the computer access is: https://www.classdojo.com This is all new for me so I appreciate your patience. I will download a schedule and some information for the kids to use for this week and we will go from there. We will then regroup after spring break (either in person or online) depending on what is happening in the world. Please continue to check the blog because that is where we will be updating information and keeping our families up to date. We are missing all of the students and we hope everyone is doing well. Ms. Flemming, Ms. Ruark, & Ms. Wilson Yesterday, the government announced that all classes are cancelled immediately and indefinitely due to COVID-19. We thank the government for listening to school boards and parents to support the health and safety of students, staff and families.
Please do not send your students to school Monday, March 16, 2020 and until further notice. Before and after school programs are also cancelled. Staff will be available at each school to ensure that, if students show up, parents will be contacted and expected to pick up their child immediately. More information will be sent to you in the coming days with details on when to pick up personal belongings, return library books, etc. Schools will create a pick up schedule which will be communicated to parents. Please note that yellow school buses and other specialized transportation will not be running tomorrow. Alberta Education has stated that every K-12 student will receive a final mark and students will progress to their next grade level next year. Provincial assessments, such as provincial achievement tests, will be cancelled. At this time, diploma exams essential for post-secondary acceptance will continue. Every student who is eligible to graduate from Grade 12 this year will graduate. We will continue to work with Alberta Education on these details. In the coming days, the CBE will be providing more information and supports for online learning, as appropriate. The government has also indicated that teachers and other staff are expected to work, either from their school or workplace. Spring break will continue as scheduled. During spring break, school buildings will be closed and school-based staff will not be working during this time. We know you have many questions. We will continue to update you as more details are confirmed. Thank you for your patience and support. Christopher Usih Chief Superintendent Hello Everyone,
We had a very nice Friday. We did two Art projects. We made shamrock sun catchers and we made four leaf clovers with chalk pastels. We also worked on a very difficult word search and the students were able to work as a group and find all of the hidden words. Reminders: Please send back the signed IPP sheet If you would like to have a discussion regarding your child you can let me know and I will book a phone call with you for next Thursday morning. This is in lieu of student led interviews which were recently cancelled. If anyone has any questions or concerns feel free to email or call. Room 22 Hello,
We had a busy Thursday and we will send updates from our last day of skating and our week overall tomorrow. Room 22 Please read the message attached below from Ms. Fraser: Dear Parents, Based on the changing provincial and local response to COVID-19, the CBE has given us direction to postpone our Parent Teacher Conferences (Student-led Open House) scheduled for March 18 & 19, 2020. If your child’s teacher has scheduled an appointment on Thursday March 19, 2020, your child’s teacher will call you at your appointment time, please make sure you are available at that time. All CBE schools have been given direction to postpone or cancel events that include populations from other schools and/or parents or other community members, such as Parent-Teacher Interviews, celebrations of learning, drama/musical performances, dances, athletic competitions, etc. This decision is effective from Mar. 12 until the end of March break. This decision will be revisited during March break to determine whether events should be rescheduled. Events outside of school hours that include the regular student and staff population of the school (school clubs, practices, etc) and scheduled field trips may continue at this time. I know this may be disappointing news. Students and staff have spent a significant amount of time preparing for this event, but the health of our community is our priority. For the most up to date information about the CBE’s approach to COVID-19 and the actions we are taking, please visit our website. Answers to frequently asked questions will continue to be posted as information becomes available. Thank you, Brenna Fraser Brenna Fraser Principal Rosscarrock School 403-777-8390 [email protected] Hello,
We had a great Wednesday. All of the students worked hard on their literacy. We are finishing our friendship unit and the students wrote sentences about what makes a good friend. We are spending a lot of time discussing the Keys to Friendship and ways to solve our own problems using Kelso's choices. You can ask your student what these things are. We had our third day of inline skating and the kids are doing amazing. They get their own skates on and they put on their own equipment. They are learning to stop and make bubbles. Tomorrow is our last day of inline skating. We finished our books for our friendship unit. REMINDER Please send back signed IPP's in the brown envelope Book teacher interview with Ms. Flemming if you want to meet outside of student led conferences on Wednesday. Hello,
We started Alien Inline Skating today. The Room 22 students did a great job listening, learning and trying out a new sport for some of them. We will be skating every day this week. Please look for an email coming out today from Ms. Flemming regarding IPP's, and student led conferences. Happy Monday, Room 22 |
