Hello,
Room 22 had another busy day. We completed our activities for the book Love Monster. All of the students have a very good understanding of the story (beginning, middle, end), the feelings the monster had and a lesson to be learned from the book. We started to make our own love monsters today and the students worked hard creating the fur for their own love monster out of crepe paper. We also read our read aloud book "The Underneath" in hopes of finishing it this week. Some students are making predictions about what will happen. And, we are starting a unit on skip counting. Ms. Flemming is trying to teach us songs to help us skip count, but she needs more practice herself. So, stay tuned for tomorrow's skip counting musical adventures. Tomorrow we will finish our monsters, put together the Candy Grams for delivery, and finalize our boards for Cultural Night. Reminder: Cultural Night Wednesday February 12th 6:00 -7:30 p.m. EVERYONE WELCOME No School: Thursday, Friday & Monday.

Hello,
We had a great day today. Room 22 is tired from all of the reading, writing and discussion we had. We started out our day with a group walk (Terry Fox Loop) for Spark. We revisited our book from yesterday "Love Monster". You can ask your student what they thought the story was about. We worked on the assignment above. Story parts and feelings. We wrote sentences with nouns and verbs, capitals, and periods. Yesterday we made maps. We will be putting our work into our scrapbooks. We played basketball in gym and finished some of our research for Rosscarrocks Cultural Nigh. Room 22 Hello,
Room 22 worked very hard on school work today. Yesterday we learned about the compass and mapping. We are learning to read a map using directions north, south, east, west. We did a number of interesting map exercises. Today they were given a map and had to follow directions orally and label the map (it was a castle). They did great. We read Love Monster for Language Arts and made a map of the setting of the book and all of the places the monster went. We will continue with a Valentines, Kindess, theme through next week. We will be making some valentines this week, and students are welcome to bring valentines for their friends and classmates next week. This is entirely optional and not an expectation. We will have some fun activities on Wednesday February 12. Also, our class is selling Candy Grams to the entire school and business is booming. We have sold over 100 Candy Grams and we are still selling. Candy Grams are 5 for $1.00 or 1 for .25 cents. We plan to give some of the profits back to the school. Possibly to put toward popcorn for the next movie night/day in the gym. We continue to play basketball and floor hockey in gym and we are really great. Room 22 Hello, After multiple attempt to add photos to the blog I was unsuccessful, so my apologies for the technology not cooperating this week. I sent a blog message Tuesday but it also failed to launch. So, today will just be a quick message. The kids finished their swimming lessons today. I would like to thank all of the volunteers who helped our class. Two of the coaches said the room 22 students were some of the nicest kids they had every taught! We are super proud of them. They tried very hard, and worked very hard. All of the students had a great day today. We watched a video about our brain and brain games. We read our read aloud book "The Underneath". We worked on our math, music and floor hockey skills. Remember there is no school tomorrow. The kids will be selling their candy grams next week. Have a great long weekend. Room 22
Hello,
Room 22 started out the day with a games of three on three basketball in the gym. We are going to be practicing our drills, skills and game sense over the coming weeks. It is Ms. Flemming's hope that by spring we can be out in our driveways and parks playing pick up basketball. We have really been focusing on reading in Language Arts and we have been practicing during our silent reading/mindfulness time after lunch. In Math we are working on number talks as a class and today we started addition and different ways to see it and put our ideas together. We are really getting creative in Math. Our new unit in Art is Pop Art and today we logged onto the TATE Modern Gallery website and did all kinds of activities in the Tate Modern Kids section. Just google: tate.org.uk Tomorrow we are baking for coffee cart and we are starting an Art project based on Roy Lichtenstein's work. Room 22 Hello Everyone,
We had a fun Friday. Our coffee cart was a hit as you can see below. We also had an Art class where the students could experiment with tempura paints to create different masterpieces. Our paper plate art went up on the wall today and pictures will follow. We played our usual Friday game of floor hockey and things ended in a tie. We were all so hot from playing so hard. Enjoy the weekend and the warmer weather. Room 22 Hello,
We had a great day today. We had a special guest join us for music. Ms. Flemming's Uncle Brian came and we sang songs and learned some new songs. He is going to come back and work on some Ukulele practice with us and teach us some songs we can play with a couple of cords. Ms. Flemming forgot to take pictures. We painted our dots today that go with the book we read about growth mindset called "The Dot". We started a unit on 10 Frames in math. We made cookies for our Coffee Cart tomorrow. It was fun and busy. We will post some pictures on the blog tomorrow. Room 22 Please see the message from Ms. Fraser below: Dear Parents/Guardians: Alberta Education invites you to play an important role in your child’s education through the Accountability Pillar Surveys. Every year the provincial government sends out surveys to teachers, students and parents as a way of gathering information on the quality of education provided by schools in the province. Teacher and student surveys are conducted online, parents are surveyed by mail. The Accountability Pillar is, simply put, a set of goals Alberta Education provides to schools. Some of these goals include Safe and Caring (an agreement between teachers, parents and students that students are safe at school, are learning the importance of caring for others, are learning respect for others and are treated fairly at school). Other goals are Student Learning Achievements (Provincial Achievement/Diploma Exams), Continuous Improvement (teacher, student and parent perceptions that their school and schools in their jurisdiction have improved or stayed the same in the last three years) and Parental Involvement (teacher and parent satisfaction with parental involvement in decisions about their child's education). Once goals are established and are being implemented in the classrooms, a way to measure their success is needed. The Accountability Pillar Survey is an innovative and straightforward way to measure our learning goals as schools. The Survey’s end report will show a variety of important information to parents, teachers, school authorities, students and the province - information like how we’ve improved, where we’ve remained consistent and what we need to continue to work toward. From January to the end of February, Alberta Education will be conducting the annual Accountability Pillar Survey. In January, parents of students in grades 4 to 6 will receive a survey from Alberta Education. In February, students in grades 4 to 6 and all teachers will be completing their surveys online at school. Survey results will be available to school authorities in May, and will be reported publicly as part of their Three Year Education Plan. All surveys are anonymous and are available in a variety of languages. In addition to English and French, the parent survey is available in Chinese, Punjabi, Arabic, Blackfoot, Cree, Korean, Spanish and Tagalog. It is extremely important to us that The Accountability Pillar surveys be filled out by students, parents and teachers and returned promptly. Your participation helps provide important information on the quality of education your child is receiving. More details about the Accountability Pillar are available on the Alberta Education website atwww.Education.Alberta.ca Brenna Fraser Principal, Rosscarrock School Calgary Board of Education | cbe.ab.ca/Rosscarrock t | 403-777-8390 f | 403-777-8392 Hello,
We had a busy day in Room 22 today. The kids enjoy SPARK. Wednesday we play tag. We played three games Pizza tag, Fishy Little Fishy, and Four Corners. We have also learned to play silent soccer during our circle time. The students have to throw a ball to one another while seated at their desks or in a chair close by. The rules are you cannot say anything, throw erratically, or drop the ball when it comes your way --- or you are out. They are really trying hard to follow the rules and they amaze me with their sportsmanship and honesty. Sometimes we have to stop and discuss something, but overall it has been a very positive experience for all of us. We will continue to play games that test our level of patience and understanding. We had a math quiz today on the dot images we have been working on every day for the last two weeks. They are not for marks, but to see what the students know all on their own. It was impressive. We are doing our Coffee Cart this week. We are making Butterbeer cookies (Harry Potter Theme) so if any of the kids wants to bring anything to wear for their jobs on Friday they can. Lastly, today the students presented a "kids" song that their groups have worked on since Monday. Each group had to pick a song that was a well known kids song like Farmer and the Dell and do actions and singing. They presented to the class today and it was really fun to watch. We continue to work on our growth mindset by taking risks and trying new things. I wish we had video - next time. Room 22 |
